Watched the series finale of Rome and the season finale of Battlestar Galactica yesterday evening. The finale of Rome, De Patre Vostro, was an excellent episode, and I feel that I have somewhat neglected the show this last season, often fiddling with other stuff while watching it. It is/was a series that demands your attention more than, say, Alias or 24. All in all, it was a typical HBO production; extremely
beautifully shot, excellent actors and just high budget, all in all. The thing it perhaps lacked was a soul, but I find that usually is the case with HBO’s series. They are beautiful in every way, but they don’t have the little extra thing that perhaps House or Firefly has/had.
The season finale of Battlestar Galactica started out as a pretty lame episode, but needless to say, it ended in a pretty cool cliffhanger. Not at all as weird as the last season finale, which left me wondering whether they’d do a Dallas, with the last x episodes having all been a dream. Let’s just say that it seems Lasse was right about Starbuck (which will make him even more obnoxious), and I was wrong. I’m glad that at least a fourth season of Battlestar has been confirmed, but what happens after that is anyone’s guess. It’ll be exciting to see if they’ll wrap it up good. It is definitely, in my eyes, the best sci fi ever produced, with the possible exception of Firefly.
In other tv-related news, on 24, things are business as usual, with Jack seems to be in amazing shape for someone who’s spent years of torture in a Chinese prison, and Alias is carefully picking up pace, as I’m approaching the season 2 finale.
